Axel’s presentation touched on the role responsible recruitment of migrant workers plays in the global food supply chain in particular, and how this aspect interacts with more general sourcing issues.
In particular, Axel addressed the the challenges facing the companies that are actually leading the paradigm shift to responsible sourcing, how this shift effects H-2A recruitment, and on best practices for ethical recruitment and verification.
With CIERTO’s recent expansion into Guatemala with the Guatemala Workforce Initiative, he was also able to share lessons learned in the field regarding migrant workers from Mexico and Guatemala, and their experience coming to the the US through the H-2A program.
Axel wrapped up by explaining the positive impact the CIERTO model was having on the lives of migrant farm workers in the U.S. and how important this aspect of responsible sourcing has become to large retailers like Walmart and Costco, as well as to consumers over the last several years.
